Fall Knit-along

FALL 2016 KNIT-ALONG

This fall we will embark on knitting Medrith Glover’s ingenious design called Ginny.  It is a cardigan that produces stripes on the diagonal.  Similar to Elizabeth Zimmerman's Surprise Jacket, this pattern lends itself to endless interpretations. There are several variations, such as a single color with a stripe using a very special variegated yarn, a variegated yarn, and several different colors, among others.

The construction of the sweater is particularly well suited to variegated yarns with long color runs, such as Noro's Silk Garden, Viking's Odin, or Classic Elite's Liberty Wool and Liberty Light. Anne used Seta Tweed (75% silk/25% cotton) for the sweater in the picture.  Or choose one color and use an interesting stitch detail to highlight the direction of the knitting. The diagonal stripes are achieved with paired increases and decreases.  There are also several ways to finish the sweater - knitter’s choice!

We will host three sessions for different sections of the pattern, spaced out over several weeks. Join us on Saturday mornings from 11:30 am to 1 pm (Oct. 8 and 29, Nov. 19, and Dec. 17) or Wednesday evenings from 6 pm to 7:30 pm (Oct. 5 and 26, Nov. 16, and Dec. 14).

For the first session, you will need a copy of the pattern which we will have for sale, your yarn and appropriate needles, some scrap yarn and a crochet hook for provisional cast on, and pencil and paper to take notes, if you wish. There is no charge to join the knit-along, but if you want to use yarn from your stash, we will ask a small fee of only $5.00 per session.
